Connect Claude or ChatGPT to your books

Kantax speaks MCP — the protocol AI tools use to connect to real systems. Connect once, and you can keep the books by typing instead of clicking through forms.

Getting started

1Add Kantax to your AI tool using the command or address below.
2The tool opens Kantax in your browser. Log in as usual.
3Choose what the program is allowed to do, and approve it.

Pick your tool

No key to copy, no password to paste. You approve the connection in the browser and can revoke it whenever you like.

Claude (claude.ai and Claude Desktop)

Go to Customize → Connectors → Add connector → Add custom connector, name it Kantax and paste the address:

Claude opens Kantax in your browser. Log in, choose the access level and approve. Turn Kantax on under the tools icon in the chat.

ChatGPT

Needs a paid ChatGPT plan. Turn on Developer mode under Settings → Apps → Advanced settings. Then choose Create app (or Add custom connector), pick OAuth as authentication and paste the address:

ChatGPT opens Kantax to log in and approve. Pick Kantax in the chat before you ask.

Claude Code

Run this in your terminal:

claude mcp add --transport http kantax https://kantax.no/api/mcp/v1

Then type /mcp in Claude Code and follow the login.

Codex

Run in your terminal:

The second command opens Kantax in your browser to log in and approve.

Cursor

Add this to ~/.cursor/mcp.json (or Settings → MCP → Add new MCP server):

Cursor asks you to log in the first time Kantax is used.

Receipts from the chat or your computer

Ask the assistant to add the receipt. It finds the way itself.

In Claude Code, Cursor, Codex and Claude Desktop the assistant reads the file on your computer and uploads it itself — just say where it is. In claude.ai and ChatGPT it can't pick up files you attach in the chat, so it gives you an upload link valid for 30 minutes: drop the receipts there, say so, and it books them. Receipts that are online, like a link in an email, it fetches itself.

You decide what it can do

You choose the access level when you approve the connection, and can change it by reconnecting.

Read only

See accounts, reports and receipts. Cannot change anything.

Read and draft

Also: upload and book receipts, book expenses, draft invoices, record payments, maintain customers, suppliers, products and projects, and set up the company (logo, notifications, and the bank account while none is saved).

Full access — coming later

Issuing invoices and filing VAT and payroll reports with Altinn. Those cannot be undone, so each filing gets its own approval step.

Everything an AI assistant does is recorded in the audit log, tagged with the connection that did it. Review and revoke connections under Settings → AI connections.
